An overview of the area near the main gate of Muktinath. At the left Sangdo Gompa as it is now. At the right the house of the Hindu pujari with next to it the puja rooms. In front of the picture there is the monument for the 18 th. century satguru Swaminarayan who came to Muktinath at the age of eleven. He practiced severe penance there for two and a half months and attained the highest degree of proficiency in Nishkamvrat (celibacy, self-control and non-attachment to worldly objects).
